Exciting Season

It has been an exciting season thus far.  I have put in alot of hours hunting.  In the beginning of season I let alot of does and bucks walk in hopes of scoreing a monster buck.  And on November 25th @ 4:20 in the afternoon I had the opportunity to make this hopefully happen.  On this particular day I decided to go to the stand a little earlier than usual.  It was around 2:45pm when I climbed up into my stand over looking a field where we had some awesome food plots.  Around 3:50pm, a small buck showed up in the woods next to the field.  I watched him from the distance for a few minutes and then he disappeared as quick as he had appeared.  Then at 4:20, I looked up and what did I see before me? A very nice buck.  He walked out of the woods and into the food plot.  I was looking at a side profile of his rack and I thought to myself, "he looks like a nice 6 pt."  Then he turned his head away from me and a got a view of his spread. My nice 6 pt. went to "WOW look at that spread".  Needless to say, I decided that I was going to take this one. I prepared myself for the shot and took it.  He preceded to buck and ran out into the middle of the field where his front legs went down and he flipped completely over his head.  That was a first for me.  I only wished that I had it on camera.  He managed to get back to his feet and trotted off into the woods.  I was excited.  I felt confident that I had made a good shot.  I waited until dark, and went back to camp to get another club member to come help look for him.  We proceeded to the location where he had been standing when I made the shot.  We looked and looked and could not find a blood trail.  We decided to just go into the direction that he took when he trotted off into the woods and hoped that we would be able to find him.  Nothing turned up.  So, we decided to go back to camp since it was going to get down below freezing that night.  We would give it another go around the next morning in the daylight.  My excitement went to disappointment.  I had a dozen things going through my head that night.  Did I miss him?  Was he just scared by the sound of the shot to the point that he tripped as he ran off?  If I hit him, why was there no blood or hair to be found?  I could go on and on which I did all night in my head.  When the next morning finally came and we began the search, I was hopeful that we would find him.  45 minutes passed and still nothing.  We were about to give up. My hope was gone and all I could think of at that point was, "I hope that I did miss him so that I will have a second chance to take him.  At the moment that thought went through my head, I looked over to my right and there he was.  The excitement was overwhelming.  When I approached him, I realized immediately that he was in fact bigger than I had originally thought.  He had 9 pts. with a 16 3/4 inside spread and weighed 200 lbs.  His rack had pretty good mass to it.  He was one awesome buck in my book. For me he was the biggest buck that I had ever harvested since I began hunting three years ago.  And now I'm in search of finding another buck that is bigger that this  one.  Big bucks is what it's all about.  The bigger the better.  Hunting for me is in fact an obsession. I have my cameras ready and the next one will hopefully be coming to you via video.   See pics of buck below in album.
